How to Send Free WhatsApp Abandoned Cart Reminders on Wix

To send WhatsApp abandoned cart reminders on Wix for free, install the WhatsApp Order & Chat Button by LeadTrapper, connect it to the free LeadTrapper app for Windows, and tick Abandoned cart reminder in the app’s Settings. When a shopper types a phone number at checkout and leaves without paying, they get one WhatsApp message from your own number, with the products and a link straight back to their cart.

Why Use WhatsApp for Cart Reminders

Most carts never become orders. Baymard Institute averages 50 studies and puts the online cart abandonment rate at 70.22%. Some of those shoppers were only browsing. Many were interrupted, unsure about delivery, or waiting for payday, and a short nudge brings them back.

Wix already sends an abandoned cart email if you turn on its automation. Email works, but it lands next to newsletters and promotions. A shopper in Dubai, São Paulo or Jakarta who ordered from their phone usually reads WhatsApp within minutes, and when they have a question about size or delivery, they can simply reply to you in the same chat.

That reply is the real advantage. A cart email says “come back”. A WhatsApp reminder starts a conversation with the person who nearly bought.

What the Shopper Receives

This is a real reminder from our test store on 18 October 2026. The shopper left a Solid Wood Chair at checkout; about an hour later this arrived on their phone:

The message names the products (two products appear as “A and B”, more as “A, B and 3 more”), and the link opens the shopper’s own checkout with the cart still filled. The name in our test was the word “Cart” because that is what the robot typed at checkout; a real shopper sees their own first name. Newer versions shorten the long Wix link to a short useleadtrapper.com address that forwards to the same checkout.

You can change the wording. In LeadTrapper, open Store Orders and edit the Abandoned cart reminder, with the customer’s name, the products and the link as placeholders. An Arabic version is ready to use, for example: «أهلاً سارة، تركت الكرسي الخشبي في سلة التسوق. يمكنك إكمال طلبك من هنا».

How It Works

Three parts work together, and you only set them up once.

Wix spots the abandoned checkout

Wix marks a checkout as abandoned when the shopper has entered their details and then stays inactive for about an hour. The WhatsApp Order & Chat Button receives that event with the products, the total and the recovery link. If the shopper never typed a phone number, there is nothing to send to, and the cart is skipped.

The reminder waits for your PC

The reminder goes into a queue. LeadTrapper, a free WhatsApp tool for Windows, picks it up and sends it from the WhatsApp number you connected, the same way it sends order confirmation messages. If your PC is off, the reminder waits and goes out when LeadTrapper opens again.

Bought already? Nothing is sent

If the shopper comes back and pays before the reminder leaves, Wix reports the cart as recovered and the reminder is cancelled. Nobody gets “you left this in your cart” for an order they already placed.

Set It Up in Five Minutes

You need a Wix site with Wix Stores and a Windows computer that is on during your working hours.

1. Install the Wix app

Add the WhatsApp Order & Chat Button by LeadTrapper to your site and enter your WhatsApp number in its Settings. The WhatsApp order button for Wix guide covers this step with screenshots.

2. Connect LeadTrapper

Download LeadTrapper from the Microsoft Store. In the Wix app, click Generate Connection Code; in LeadTrapper, open Store Orders, paste the code, tick “Send order messages automatically” and save. Then scan the QR code with the WhatsApp account the store uses.

3. Tick the reminder

Back in the Wix app’s Settings, tick Abandoned cart reminder: “Send one WhatsApp reminder with a link back to their cart when a customer leaves checkout without paying.” It stays off until you tick it.

4. Test it

Open your live store in a private window, add a product, enter your own second number at checkout and close the tab. Within about two hours the reminder should arrive.

Keep It Safe and Polite

WhatsApp counts cart reminders as marketing, not as a service message like an order confirmation. That matters because the reminder goes out from your own number. The design keeps the risk low and the shopper’s trust high.

• One reminder per cart. No follow-up chain, no second “last chance” message.
• Lowest priority. Cash-on-delivery checks and order confirmations go first.
• Shared safety limits. Reminders count towards the same limits as your other store messages, 40 an hour and 300 a day by default.
• STOP is respected. Every reminder ends with “Reply STOP to stop these messages”. A shopper who replies STOP joins the store’s do-not-message list, which you can see in the Wix app.

Free vs Paid Wix Cart Apps

The trade-off is honest: the paid apps run in the cloud, while ours needs LeadTrapper open on a Windows PC. For most small stores that already keep a computer on during the day, that is a fair price for free reminders.
