The format
The WhatsApp link format, and the mistakes it prevents
A WhatsApp click-to-chat link is a wa.me web address. WhatsApp's help centre describes it as https://wa.me/ followed by the full phone number in international format, with any zeros, brackets or dashes left out.

- A leading 0 (050… instead of 50…) or a + sign in the link opens the wrong chat or none. The tool removes both.
- Spaces and dashes in the number break the link. The tool strips them.
- Forgetting the country code is the most common error. The country picker adds it.
- A message with &, # or a line break needs encoding. The tool encodes it.
- Mexico and Argentina are the two countries WhatsApp's help page gives an extra digit: a 1 after +52 and a 9 after +54. The tool adds them, says so, and shows a tick box to switch that off.
QR codes that do not expire
Every code from this tool is a static QR code. The wa.me link is written into the pattern itself, so there is no account to keep, no subscription to renew and no redirect through anyone's server. A printed code keeps working for as long as the WhatsApp number does.
The trade-off is honest: you get no scan statistics, and if the number or the message changes you need to make a new code. For a printed menu, a card or a window sticker, that is usually the right choice.

Questions about WhatsApp links and QR codes
How do I create a WhatsApp link?
Choose the country, type the number and, if you want one, a message. The tool builds a wa.me link straight away. Copy it, or open it once to test it. The link opens a chat with that number and puts your message in the box, and the person still presses send.
What is the WhatsApp link format?
It is https://wa.me/ followed by the full phone number in international format, then, if you want a message, ?text= and the message with spaces and punctuation encoded. WhatsApp's own guidance is to leave out zeros, brackets and dashes. For example: https://wa.me/15551234567?text=Hello.
How do I make a WhatsApp QR code?
Enter the number and message as above, then download the code as a PNG for print and social posts, or as an SVG for designers and large prints. The QR code holds the same wa.me link, so scanning it opens the chat.
Do these QR codes expire?
No. They are static codes: the link is written into the pattern itself, so there is no account, no subscription and no redirect through a server. They keep working as long as the WhatsApp number does. The trade-off is that you get no scan statistics, and a new number or message needs a new code.
Can I add my logo or change the colours?
Yes. Open Customize to pick colours and add a logo from your computer, which stays in your browser. A logo covers part of the code, so the tool switches to the highest error correction, and you should scan the result with a phone before you print. Dark code on a light background scans best; low contrast or inverted colours may not scan.
Can I create many links at once?
Yes. Bulk mode turns up to 5,000 numbers into a list of links you can copy or download as a CSV, and it flags duplicates and numbers that do not look right. It cannot tell whether a number is registered on WhatsApp. The Number Filter in the LeadTrapper Windows app checks that.
Do you store my number or message?
No. The tool runs in your browser and sends nothing you type to us or anyone else. It stores nothing and needs no sign-up, and what you enter disappears when you close the page. Like the rest of this site, the page is counted by standard website analytics, which records visits to the page and not what you type.
Does the link work on iPhone, Android and WhatsApp Web?
WhatsApp says Click to Chat works on the phone and on WhatsApp Web. The person tapping the link needs WhatsApp installed on their phone or access to WhatsApp Web.
Why does my link open the wrong chat, or nothing?
Almost always the number: a missing country code, a leading 0, or a mistyped digit. Check the line that says which number we will use, open the link once and see which chat opens.
Can I make a QR code for a PDF menu or a website here?
No. This tool makes WhatsApp chat codes only. For a PDF or a website you need a general QR code generator. A WhatsApp code suits bookings, orders and support chats.
